Albania’s roads are bloodied more by road accidents in 2023. The report published by INSTAT has highlighted that in the 365 days of the past year, 1,285 road accidents occurred out of 1,165 that were recorded in 2022.
Parallel to the increasing number of accidents, the number of injured and victims in these accidents has also increased. From 1,599 injured in 2022 to 1,731 in 2023.
Violation of traffic rules by drivers is the cause of accidents in 86.4% of cases.
What stands out is that 40% of road accidents are caused by drivers who have more than 9 years of driving experience, followed by those who have 6-9 years. At a time when the number of accidents for this category of drivers has increased, young drivers have shown themselves to be more responsible, marking a decrease in the number of accidents from 2022 to 2023.
If we analyze the data by age group, we see that the highest number of accidents was committed by young people aged 25-34. Worrying is the fact that in 2023, 11 accidents were caused by people under 16 who do not have the right to obtain a driving license.
Statistics experts have highlighted that in 70% of the cases, the accident victims are men, while 14.9 lives lost per 100 accidents are registered.
Main urban roads are the areas where most accidents occur.
Tirana leads as the district with the highest number of accidents followed by Durrës, while the district with the smallest number of road accidents is Dibra.
