The fires at the Sazan Island are completely under control and we’re heading towards extinguishing all outbreaks, said Vlora Prefect on Tuesday in an interview on Euronews Albania.
A specialized firefighting plane from Greece, after the EU activated its EU Civil Protection Mechanism, has been flying all day around the affected areas dropping water on the flames.
We have activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism upon Albania's request for assistance in fighting forest fires that broke out at Sazan island.

“We wanted to keep the area under control by isolating the outbreaks”, said Vlora Prefect Flamur Mamaj.
Aerial intervention came at the right time he added, due to difficult terrain where it is impossible to go in with Albania’s helicopters.
