German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared from a joint press conference with PM Albin Kurti that the dialogue must advance and lead to reciprocal recognition, as a condition for the European perspective of both countries.

“Kosovo and Serbia must find a political agreement. Lajcak supports the dialogue, a constructive approach that benefits citizens and the EU perspective of Kosovo. It’s unthinkable that two countries who don’t recognize each other become members of the European Union”, Scholz said.

The German Chancellor also declared that visa liberalization must follow upon completion of all the conditions.

“We’re committed for visa liberalization as soon as possible after the conditions are fulfilled. We’ll discuss that with all our allies and friends in Europe in order to convince them, as we already are”, said the German Chancellor.

Scholz said Germany “will do everything” for the Western Balkan countries to join the European Union.

“The Berlin Process is a sign that Germany will do everything to help the countries of the Western Balkan join the EU at the right time”, he concluded.
