The second round of voting in the Macedonian 2021 Local Elections is taking place today in 44 of the country communes that headed to runoffs a month ago.
A total of 1.353.990 citizens are eligible to vote, in 2.481 ballot centres.
In this second round, voters will be picking amongst the two most voted candidates in their specific commune, i.e. the candidates that received the most votes during the first round of voting.
In the first round, which took place exactly a month ago, Macedonians elected the new mayors of 34 communes – VMRO-DPMNE won 22 municipalities, Democratic Social Alliance won 9 and BDI, 3.
There’s a total of 80 communes in North Macedonia.
The second round will be monitored by 1.598 observers, of whom 368 are foreign.
Voters won’t be heading to the polls today in 2 of the country’s communes, due to the fact that the necessary turnout of at least 1/3 of voters, wasn’t met in the first round of voting.
