Supporters of the Self-Determination Movement, led by Albin Kurti, the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, gathered today in Prishtina’s main square in what was called a “test-protest”.
More than 5000 people showed up by respecting social distancing measures, wearing masks and gloves, without any speech or marching.
The supporters demand early elections, as the Constitutional Court of Kosovo is deliberating its decision on the legitimacy of the presidential decree, which allows the creation of a new government by the LDK, with Avdullah Hoti as Prime Minister.
Avdullah Hoti is the current Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, a member of the LDK Party (Democratic League of Kosovo), which was in coalition with Kurti’s party, Levizja Vetevendosje (Self-Determination Movement).
However, LDK voted Kurti out of the government after several disagreements and demanded that Avdullah Hoti stayed in charge of a new government cabinet.
This decision was backed by President Hashim Thaci, (PDK) but is opposed by Self-Determination, which wants new elections.
The Constitutional Court met today for deliberation and the verdict will be announced tomorrow.
