Serb List, the largest Kosovo Serb party backed by Belgrade, announced on Wednesday that it will not support acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s Vetëvendosje movement in forming Kosovo’s new government.

In a Facebook statement, Serb List said that “claims made by Kurti’s closest associates about alleged support from Serb List MPs are pure lies.”

“We are absolutely certain that even members of Vetëvendosje are aware of this, but the lies they are spreading clearly serve their internal political games, which is why we publicly reject them,” the statement reads.

Serb List, which won 9 out of the 10 guaranteed seats for the Serbian minority in the February 9 parliamentary elections, did not mention any names in its statement regarding Kurti’s associates allegedly making such claims.

However, Kosovo’s acting Foreign Minister Donika Gërvalla said on Tuesday that “some MPs” from Serb List may have a “tendency” to vote for Vetëvendosje in forming the new government in an attempt “to tarnish it.”

“There may be a split within Serb List and some of them, in order to discredit this coalition before the Albanian public, may cast a vote that we have not asked for. We need to prepare the public for this, because we cannot tie their hands,” she said.

Gërvalla reiterated that allowing Serb List to be certified for the elections “was a mistake.”

Vetëvendosje has consistently rejected the idea of cooperating with Serb List and opposed its certification for the February 9 elections, but the Supreme Court of Kosovo ruled in favor of allowing the party to participate.
