Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Ivica Dačić clashed with his Kosovo counterpart, Donika Gërvalla at the UN Security Council meeting. Dačić reminded Gërvalla of an old declaration of hers, that she would deposit a testimony against Hashim Thaçi in the Special Court.

“In 2017, you said you would submit materials against Hashim Thaçi and Kadri Veseli, your political opponents. 10 years ago I signed an agreement with Thaçi, but where is he today? Why aren’t I or President Vučić under accusations? Because we never participated in anything, but you did,” said Dačić.

He even went as far as thanking Mrs. Gërvalla.

“Thank you for helping us accuse Thaçi and Veseli for war crimes,” he continued.

Gërvalla countered the Serbian head of diplomacy, by saying that the speech reflects the fact that Serbia is still the same.

“You just proved why people called you ‘Little Sloba’, because of your hero. The truth hurts. Serbia with you is not on its European path,” replied Gërvalla.

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister even suggested her counterpart to read not only headlines, after mentioning her declaration from years ago.

“The Special Court was founded by the Parliament of Kosovo. It’s a decision to investigate crimes. Those who protected their homes and citizens are not terrorists. It is true that Thaçi is in Hague, where he and the other ones will prove that the Kosovo Liberation Army is innocent.”

The Russian representative, Vassily Nebenzia, criticized Gërvalla for her declaration regarding the war in Ukraine, saying this is not “a matter of Prishtina”, adding that there is a continuous attempt at pushing away Serbs from Kosovo.

“Russia’s stance on Kosovo remains unchanged. The solution should be in the interest of Belgrade and the Serbian population and should be approved by the Security Council,” Nebenzia said.

He also mentioned the judgement of the former leaders of the KLA in Hague. The Russian diplomat hopes “the criminals will be punished accordingly and that the Court in Hague will not repeat the catastrophic mistakes of the Tribunal regarding former Yugoslavia”.
