Kosovo’s PM Albin Kurti declared that by the end of the year, Kosovo will be applying for EU membership.

In addition, he said that it would be important for Kosovo to join the EU Council, as well as the NATO’s Partnership for Peace Program.

Kurti also commented on talks currently taking place between Prishtina and Belgrade, saying that Serbia has always played both sides when it comes to its relationship with the EU and Russia.

“Serbia has been threatening Brussels, in the sense that it’s been telling [the EU] that if you don’t do as we say, we can move on with an alignment with the Russian Federation and at times, even with China. For example, Kosovo has never received a single vaccine from Russia or China, whereas Serbia has an everlasting connection with Russia,” – said Kurti.

According to Kurti, Putin would like to see his war expand and the Western Balkans is the region, where he will want to cause more turmoil through his alliance with Serbia.

In an interview for Swiss TV Blick, Kurti said that Kosovo has sided with the Democratic world against the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“What we’re seeing today in Ukraine – the aggression of a war machine against a nation – we’ve lived it 23 years ago. We have joined the West in imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation in 2014, when the annexed Crimea and Donbas – a decision, which Serbia didn’t make then and is continuing to, by never condemning or sanctioning the Russian Federation,” – said Kurti.
