The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, said Serbia expects Quint and G7 countries to turn down Kosovo’s official bid to join the Council of Europe.
In an interview for a Serbian media channel, she described the move as “the pinnacle of cynicism”, after Kosovo refused to allow its Serb minority to vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections held on April 3.
“They are applying to an institution whose ultimate goal is respect for human rights, the protection of democracy, and the rule of law. This is the pinnacle of cynicism, not just a breach of the contract, because we are used to that”.
“They have already said they do not intend to abide by the Brussels agreement. Kosovo is applying to the Council of Europe, those who have revoked all the rights of Kosovo Serbs. I am particularly interested in seeing how the Quint countries will respond,” she concluded.
Russia’s removal has secured Kosovo the two-thirds majority vote needed to be accepted in the organization.
