In North Mitrovica, one of four Serb-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo, a protest has been called by the Serbian List, the largest Serb party in Kosovo, which enjoys the support of official Belgrade.

This protest was called because of Prishtina’s decision to re-register cars with Serbian license plates KM (Mitrovice of Kosovo) to RKS – Republic of Kosovo license plates, writes REL.

The Serbian List has announced earlier that the protest is being organized to show “unity and to tell Europe, unanimously, that Serbia is their country”.

The day before, on November 5, in the northern municipalities, invitations to protests were placed in various public spaces. In these invitations, citizens have been called to place the flag of Serbia on their private properties, as such flags have already been placed in public spaces.

The Kosovo Police has said through a communiqué that it has been informed about the November 6 protest and that it has taken measures to ensure the smooth progress of the protest.

However, Radio Free Europe teams on the ground did not see police officers in police uniforms. This protest comes a day after the representatives of the Serbs from the north of Kosovo decided to leave all the institutions of Kosovo: the Government, the National Assembly, the local government, the judiciary and the police.

The head of the Serbian List, Goran Rakic, has said that the decision to leave Kosovo’s institutions will be in force until “Prishtina begins to respect public international law and the agreements agreed on in Brussels”.
