This Sunday some of the main streets in the Albanian capital, Tirana will be entirely for pedestrians.
Tirana Cityhall wants to turn this into a well-established tradition, calling on citizens to limit the use of their vehicles from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Starting from April 17, the streets of the capital will be entirely dedicated to pedestrians, in an effort to reduce pollution, and bring a new spirit to Tirana, an announcement from the City Hall read.
The Albanian government announced by the end of March that the first Sunday of every month will be a ‘car-free day’, to reduce the consumption of fuel, and protect the environment.
The main streets in the capital where cars are not allowed from 9 AM to 3 PM are:
- National Martyrs Boulevard, from the Interior Minister to the former Dajti Hotel
- National Martyrs Boulevard, from the bridge near the former Dajti Hotel to the intersection with “Ismail Qemali” street.
- Myslym Shyri street, from the intersection of the High Court till the exit of the National Martyrs Boulevard
