Democrat MP Agron Shehaj and foreign minister Olta Xhacka got into a fiery debate during Thursday’s plenary session.

Shehaj accused Xhacka of using her connections in the government to grant her relatives the strategic investor status.

“The relatives of minister Xhacka were granted the strategic investor status by PM Rama himself, and her colleagues in government, in a clear violation of the law on conflict of interest and on the status of strategic investors. This is a clear corruptive affair”, Shehaj said.

In her response, minister Xhacka said all these allegations were a ‘fabrication’.

“It is a great tragedy for the opposition to be represented by people like you, by people who claim to represent some interests, but don’t even know how to do that,” she said.

Xhacka added that her relatives have been doing business since 1991.

“It is unacceptable to come here with these stale slogans, to incite hatred against the people, and the family of the foreign minister, who has been doing business since 1991. Sir, it wasn’t me who got rich, but my family who continues with their work, like every other businessman in this country. Sit down, read and study”, concluded minister Xhacka.
