The latest Albanian Informative Services (SHISH) report states that foreign intelligence services are active in Albania by closely monitoring local developments and our relations with NATO.
SHISH further states that its activities are focused on gathering data on Albania’s political and security developments.
In addition, these services are said to monitor the military drills led by NATO in our country, as well as NATO’s relations with neighboring countries that are ally states.
In other countries around the region, says the report, hostile intelligence services are contributing to the spread of interethnic and inter-religious issues and they are offering their support to destabilizing factors currently present in the region.
The report stated that the current risk level for terrorism is low. However, those arrested on terrorism charges are trying to radicalize other inmates, which could turn into a risk for our national security, when these inmates are eventually released.
Criminal groups, according to SHISH, are becoming more heterogeneous and are expanding their criminal activity. Drug traffickers are creating short and direct relations with producers, thus expanding their field of influence.
This is the third year in a row that SHISH publishes an annual report on issues that don’t fall under the category of ‘classified information and have an impact on national security.
