The Socialist Party’s Assembly convened on Thursday at 10 AM, where Prime Minister Edi Rama is expected to reveal the names of his new ministerial cabinet.

During his opening remarks, PM Rama revealed his ambitions about winning a fourth consecutive mandate.

“The fourth mandate will be even more difficult than the third one, but it is dead set that our duty towards those that believed in us, and of course to Albania itself, to have the extraordinary honor to lead the country for a third consecutive mandate, is to do the impossible to be reconfirmed again after 4 years”, said the head of the executive branch.

“We need a new force, a new political passion, exceed ourselves in order to bring Albania to new heights”, added Rama.

According to Rama, a political party should not wake up only when elections are near, and should not be kept hostage of the privileged.

“Despite the disparities with our rivals, a mirror of the parties in force for the last 30 years resembles fragments from the movie ‘Concern in the year 36’; where a pile of directors and chiefs run to gather around the lawmaker as soon as he comes to town and later on the leader of the party”, said Rama.

The new members of the party’s presidency, secretariats, and political leaders will also be elected today.

Meanwhile, journalist Ardit Hoxha unveiled the procedure to be followed during the first plenary session on September 10.

After MPs are sworn in, they will vote for the new Speaker of Parliament, and then for the Bureau of the Assembly.

Political subjects will also be entitled to submit their requests on the composition of the new parliamentary groups.
