Kosovo’s PM, Albin Kurti has declared that soon citizens living in the four communes of northern Kosovo will have to start paying their electricity bills.
While responding to an MP from AAK (Alliance for Future of Kosovo) in today’s plenum, Kurti declared that in collaboration with ZRRE, the EU, and other partners, they will be able to enforce this regulation and have everyone living in this region start making their payments.
Kurti added that the criticism regarding this issue has been reasonable and that he believes it will be resolved soon.
“The day when the north [communes] will start to pay for their electricity is near because it is unfair for all other citizens of the Republic, especially because the ones causing the greatest damage are those who come out with statements against Kosovo and they are the ones not paying for their electricity,” – said Kurti.
Since 1999, the electricity consumed by residents of one of the four communes with a Serbian majority, (North Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zvecan, and Zubin Potok) has been billed to other citizens of Kosovo.
