The Special Prosecution Office is seeking a two-year jail sentence for the former general prosecutor Adriatik Llalla.

Due to the abbreviated trial, his sentence was deducted by one-third, which may land the former high official to 16 months behind bars, as well as being barred from public services post for 5 years.

Llalla has been accused of refusing to declare his assets and efforts to hide his wealth twice.

More specifically, Llalla is accused of failing to provide accurate information over the expenses incurred from the education of his children abroad, for which he also received a fine by the High Inspectorate of the Declaration and Control of Assets and Conflict of Interests.

One month ago, the High Court ruled that the former prosecutor must be tried by the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime.

Earlier on, Llalla logged a legal recourse at the High Court seeking to be tried by the District Court of Tirana, a decision that was overturned by the Court of Appeals.
