Arben Kraja has come out in opposition to the Democratic Party’s request to have SPAK carry out the vetting of politicians.
The head of SPAK maintained that his institution can’t be involved in this case because it creates ground for partiality.
“We have already been through an experience which I consider negative during the first year of our work, with the so-called normative act or OFL. It was precisely this situation – a duty tasked to us by law, which completely messed up the focus of our work and objective,” – said Kraja.
This stance wasn’t received particularly well by the Democratic camp.
“I was expecting another answer by the director of the Special Prosecution (SPAK). Seeing that he represents an institution whose mission is to fight organized crime and corruption. I am surprised to see that SPAK refuses to get involved in a process that fights crime and corruption,” – said Gazmend Bardhi, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, the ombudsman, Erinda Ballanca declared that citizens are convinced that the vetting of politicians will be a solution to many problems.
