SPAK will question the five women that were repatriated on Sunday from Syria after allegations that their husbands fought for the Islamic State and their potential ties with terrorist cells.

Sources told Euronews Albania that the interrogation will take place near the site they are residing in Durres in line with quarantine procedures.

Albania has strict laws when it comes to citizens involved with the war in Syria, carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Despite the law adopted in 2014, another special Anti-terror structure has been enacted to probe into those that fled to Syria amid suspicions of ties with terrorist groups.

Another important case launched several years ago by the former Prosecution for Serious Crimes tried to reveal who was financing Albanian citizens that went to Syria to fight for the Islamic State.

In order to shed some light on this story, SPAK prosecutors have their eyes on Brunilda Koçollari, Emanuela Vladi, Ruzhdije Balliu, Lavdie Kaca, and Klotilda Zani.

The chief of the Anti-Terror department, Gledis Nano, said after the repatriation mission of the 19 Albanian citizens, of which 14 were minors, that their husbands had either been killed during the war or are being held in Syrian prisons.
