From January 1, 2023, online sports betting will reopen.

This was announced in the draft budget of 2023, which foresees the reintroduction of online sports betting into the legislation.

From the approval in the gambling law of “sports betting”, with effect from January 1, 2023, it is estimated that 2 billion ALL will be collected in the state budget in taxes per year.

December 31, 2018 was the last day that betting was allowed in Albania.

After this drastic decision of the government, the phenomenon of sports betting did not disappear.

Even though the state criminalizes this activity, many businesses disguised as bars continue to offer this service underground.

In 2018, the income from this category was 38.4 million euros, and in 2017 44.5 million euros, where only bets had poured 15 million euros.

The contribution to the gambling budget fell by 6 million euros in 2020 when only one national casino was allowed and 12.8 million at the end of last year with the licensing of 3 more casinos.
