The Technical Committee of Experts has recommended upholding the actual COVID-19 preventative measures.
The director of the Public Healthcare Institute, Albana Fico, noted that 33% of the population has been fully jabbed.
The head of the Epidemiology Department Silva Bino informed that Gjirokastra is leading the vaccination drive, with a majority of citizens already vaccinated.
“Durres is no longer in the red category. The municipality with the greatest vaccine coverage, with 80% of its citizens having taken both vaccine doses, is Gjirokastra, followed by Delvina”, Bino said.
She also noted that 66% of teaching staff are now vaccinated.
Regarding health care workers, Bino said “we have a good vaccine coverage, but we need to reach at least 95%”.
Bino also ruled out that vaccines had reached their expiration date, but stressed that all the supplies have been administered.
The current measures in force include:
- 11 PM to 6 AM curfew
- Mandatory to wear a mask in indoor public spaces
- Gatherings of more than 50 people are banned
- Stadiums to work at 30% capacity
- All travelers must show a vaccine certificate or proof of recovery not older than 6 months. In absence of the above, travelers will be required to self-isolate for 10 days.
Experts are warning that the third COVID wave is now also affecting children.
Pediatrician Gjeorgjina Kuli informed that more children are showing up to the hospital, although their symptoms are less severe.
According to her, the hospitalization count of minors from the beginning of the pandemic is around 350.
