To abuse with public tenders is the same as stealing from all Albanian citizens, including US citizens. This was the reaction of the US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, right after the announcement of the arrests carried out with the orders of SPAK (Special Structure Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime), against the former and existing high-ranking officials at the Internal Affairs Ministry, regarding the violation of the police uniforms tender in 2020.
Through a post on Twitter, ambassador Kim commended the recent operations of SPAK, while condemning the tender abuse in Albania, conducted by high public officials.
“Good to see more SPAK actions against corruption. Abuse or manipulation of public procurement processes is the same as stealing from all citizens (including US citizens, whose taxes provide assistance to Albania) to fatten the wallets of oneself or one’s “friends”. It is a crime,’ wrote the US ambassador.
9 former and existing high public officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs were arrested earlier today, because of violations with the tender of police uniforms, valued at a whopping $25 million euros.
