Traffic congestion for vehicles that are headed to the Rinas airport will be solved by rehabilitating an axis that runs parallel to the existing road.
1.3 kilometers ahead of where vehicles start to approach the Rinas roundabout – close to the military unit – an exit junction will be built that will link incoming traffic with the airport’s parking lot.
The Road Authority has started an emergency procedure which requires the reconstruction of this axis within a 3-month time period.
The company that will win the tender will sign a contract with the state for the reconstruction of this axis for a total cost of €280 thousand euros.
The deadline for the submissions of these offers will be June 15 and if the procedure isn’t appealed, the new road project is expected to wrap up by the end of September.
Traffic on this road segment has been jammed due to a high number of travelers flying in from the Rinas Airport, which reached 2.9 million passengers only last year alone.
