Democratic MP Arbi Agalliu commented on the arrest of former FBI agent Charles McGonigal and his connections with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, he said that the agent took money from Rama to start an investigation for the lobbying company which DP had a contract with.
Agalliu said that everything that happened in relation to the Russian money, for which the former head of the DP Lulzim Basha was accused, was paid for.
“It is an event that has deeply shaken the trust that countries like Albania have in institutions like the FBI. It creates shock and disappointment that these things happen in a country that is a symbol of democracy.
The fact that the ex-agent received money to launch an investigation against an official lobbying company with which the DP has a contract is nothing but blatant. This is where the entire story starts to become dubious and where we start to ask questions.
I am convinced that the whole story of the Russian money is something paid for and something that was fabricated and intentionally made up. There is something wrong here. All conjectures lead to the fact that there was an initial purchase of what was said after,” he said.
