The Commission on the Electro Energetic crisis in North Macedonia dismissed the need to proclaim a state of crisis, during its recent meeting.
According to the minister of economy, Kreshnik Bekteshi, citizens have no reason to be alarmed as “at least until January”, they won’t be affected by a rise in the electricity bill, adding that the government is taking measures to boost energy production.
“Our conclusion is that there won’t be any price rise for households until the end of the year, but at the same time, smaller companies have shifted from the liberalized market to the universal supplier. We are following the situation closely, but at the moment we do not believe it is necessary to proclaim an energy crisis”, declared minister Bekteshi, while also vowing support to energy-producing companies.
He also added that in case prices rise, the state will protect citizens.
Sources confirm that the Ministry of Economy is preparing to purchase electricity from abroad. North Macedonia currently uses twice the amount of electricity it produces.
