The social media platform TikTok will be blocked for users in Albania starting March 13, 2025, following a decision by the Council of Ministers.

This ban will last for 12 months and will affect all users of the platform within Albanian territory.

The Council of Ministers approved this measure in its March 7, 2025, meeting, citing the need to enforce safety and age standards for underage users.

Following this decision, the National Authority for Cybersecurity (AKSK) has instructed internet service providers to take the necessary steps to block access to TikTok. These measures include blocking IP addresses, DNS, SNI, and ByteDance’s digital infrastructure related to TikTok.

AKSK’s request contains detailed instructions for internet companies, specifying that they must block all IPs and domains that connect Albanian users to TikTok, effectively restricting all digital access to the platform in the country.

Under the law, all electronic communications service providers are required to comply with these restrictions and report to the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) on their implementation by March 13, 2025.

The decision is based on Law No. 54/2024 “On Electronic Communications in the Republic of Albania” and the regulation on the implementation of the general authorization regime.

This measure has been taken to protect the safety and interests of underage users in Albania.
