The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, arrived at the party headquarters, an hour before the start of the protest, that has been called by this political force.
In a short statement to the press, Berisha said that Tirana is steaming and all citizens should head to the main square to join the protest.
“Tirana is steaming, everyone head to the square. Long live Tirana, long live Albania”, Berisha told reporters.
Shortly before arriving at DP’s headquarters, Berisha shared a reaction regarding the protest on his social media.
The chief democrat warned that today there will be an “unprecedented hurricane” on “Deshmoret e Kombit” Boulevard – an area that is included in the security perimeter as a result of the government’s hosting of the EU-Western Balkans Summit.
The protest of the Democratic Party will take place alongside this summit.
Earlier, Berisha confirmed that the protest will be held in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, despite the fact that the police did not give him permission to hold the protest inside the security perimeter, and instead offered the opposition to hold their protest at the Skanderbeg square.
However, Berisha refused to abide by these instructions and has repeatedly said that the opposition people will fill the streets and squares of Tirana today.
