Tirana continues to be ranked among the most expensive cities in Europe for buying a home. According to Numbeo agency data for 2024, to buy an apartment in the capital, a family must work for 15 years and 3 months. This estimate takes into account the combination of price per square meter and average household income.
In this list of 293 cities in the world, Tirana ranks fifth in Europe, after Lisbon, where a family will need 19 years and 5 months to buy an apartment. After Lisbon, in the ranking are Paris and Split with 17.8 years, while Milan has a period of 16.3 years to complete the purchase.
The data show an increase in the time needed to afford the purchase of a property in Tirana. In 2023, citizens needed 17.5 years, while in 2022 this number was 15.7 years. This shows a continued increase in real estate prices and demand for apartments in the capital, where construction has also been on the rise in recent years.
In 2023, Paris was the most expensive city to buy a home in Europe, at 20.2 years, and Tirana was in sixth place.
