Tour operators in Vlora are seeking an early start for the summer season, that is precisely on April 16.

In addition, they want to have a clear idea of how public spaces and sunbeds will get distributed, in order to avoid last-minute altercations with other tour operators.

The head of the tour operator union, Vasil Bedinaj is urging for more coordination with the respective institutions.

“We want to be clear on who the beneficiaries are. Is it those who get the license from e-Albania or from the city hall? Since the tourism ministry has a 30-day application requirement, hotels should be granted the license first, as also based on the law”, argued Bedinaj.

Vlora’s regional governor Flamur Mamaj said that all inquiries will be addressed to the tourism ministry.

Currently, Vlora has a capacity of 3,400 rooms and 380 hotels. Last year, 165 subjects were granted permission to use the public beach.

6.9 million people visited Albania last year, or in other words, 2,5 million visitors less than before the pandemic hit.

In regional terms, the greatest influx of tourists arrived from Kosovo, followed by North Macedonia, Italy, and Greece.

Recently, Albania’s coastline has attracted tourists from Poland and the Middle East.
