Albania will soon begin the inoculation of people working in the tourism sector, becoming the first country in the region to create a secure environment for tourists, while the decision has been widely praised by tour operators and business associations.
For some months, these associations and tourist operators, which were among the worst-hit sectors by the pandemic, have demanded that they be given priority.
It seems that their request has been heard and will soon be implemented following an announcement by the Minister of Tourism and the Environment Blendi Klosi that this category will soon be added to those waiting to be immunized against COVID-19.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tour Operator Association, Rexhep Kasmi, said that vaccination is the “right solution” for the attraction of potential tourists.
“We salute the initiative and it is exactly what we needed. It is a harsh battle to be able to attract tourists that will be able to travel during this period”, Kasmi added.
Meanwhile, other business representatives said that their hopes are that other countries in the region and beyond also embrace the initiative.
“I am sure that this idea will be snatched by Greece, Italy, and Spain because it really is a signal that gives assurance for tourists to come here and to respond to the financial offer that Albania has in general”, said Luan Bregasi, the head of the association Biznes Albania.
According to the plan, hotel staff and professional guides will receive the COVID-19 shot.
