Democratic MP Ervin Salianji said in a statement to the press that the government does not provide any information about the constructions that have been found to be illegal, mainly in Tirana.

Salianji underlined that the oligarchs are untouchable at this point and have avoided taxes all along.

“We have some questions that we have officially brought to him. They are trying to cover their tracks. The government does not answer when we ask which constructions it has found to be illegal, mainly in Tirana. Why does the law not affect the oligarchs who have built towers in the middle of Tirana?

Why are these illegal constructions in Tirana not referred by the police and why are they not referred by the IKMT to the prosecutor’s office? Why don’t IKMT and the police surround these oligarchs? The oligarchs have evaded taxes and evaded their public duties. The prosecution bears its burden of guilt by pushing the weak to face the law instead of bigger fish”, said Salianji.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that 4,646 square meters of land for illegal constructions built without a permit in the middle of Tirana, have been transferred to the state through a notarial contract.

In a video message posted on social media, Rama stated that this is only the first step towards the government’s plan to take away illegal ‘square meters’ and other assets from those who break the law.
