Around 8,000 nursing graduates in Albania are currently unemployed, declared on Thursday the President of the Order of Nurses, Blerina Duka.

In an interview for Good Morning on Euronews Albania, she explained that more than 8,000 graduates have a difficult time finding employment.

Duka said that after graduating, students enroll in the government online portal ‘Nurses for Albania’, as they see the platform as the only way out of unemployment.

“They are enrolled in the ‘Nurses for Albania’ portal. It is one of the best things to happen to health care because anyone can find a job there”, she added.

She also noted that according to the platform, there are vacancies in Tirana, as well as in some other cities, but added that there may be different reasons why there are nurses who are still unemployed.

Rural and steep mountainous areas are struggling to attract nurses, Duka said.

Meanwhile, Stiven Shala from the Citizens Resistance held that Albanian nurses are using their diplomas as a ticket to flee abroad.
