Education in Albania is in urgent need of funding. A UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) report pointed to the need for more budget.

“What has stood out the most from this report is the distribution of financial resources. It should be seen from two perspectives, as a parent, how much do I spend when I go to school, and understandably, this price has been increasing. On the other hand, the financial distribution”, says Irida Sina, education expert.

The salaries of teachers in Albania, the report states, are the same as those of technical support staff and are significantly lower than the salaries of professionals and lower than in neighboring countries.

“In a school where we have one teacher with 30 students and one where we have one teacher with 15 students. The cost is the same for these teachers, but the distribution per number of students is not the same. The second is related to a teacher’s motivation. The fatigue of one at 30 is not the same. Do we need to rethink how we can motivate the teacher? Fatigue is not the same as what answers 15 parents”, she said.

Experts say that it is necessary to increase the facilities where children can play, pass the time, since in this way it is possible to make students stay at school for more hours.
