The US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim, reminded PM Edi Rama and the opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, of the agreement they have signed on June 5th.

The US diplomat underlines that the political leaders will be responsible if they don’t keep their promises regarding the next elections of April 25th.

“We remind PM Edi Rama, DP leader Lulzim Basha and other leaders of all commitments they made with regard to the June 5th agreement, and any measures beyond that. Engagement, proposals, and counter-proposals must be in good faith. The USA will always support you, but you, the Albanian leaders, are the responsible party”, Kim said.

The Ambassador’s appeal comes at a time when the majority and opposition cannot find consensus on the pre-electoral coalitions and the formula for opening the list of candidates.

The Socialist Party’s decision was that the recent Constitutional amends make it impossible for the creation of coalitions with specific lists, while the Democratic Party has asked the OSCE/ODIHR for an opinion.
