Through a reaction on the latest report published by OSCE regarding the April 25th elections in Albania, the US embassy has called on all political actors and institutions in our country to take the recommendations seriously in order to improve the future electoral processes.
In the reaction of the US diplomatic representatives in our country, it states the following:
“We urge all relevant institutions to review the final report and its recommendations to further improve Albania’s elections”.
The OSCE mission’s report published two days ago, reiterated the need to undertake legal changes through a set of 23 recommendations that would “help bring Albania closer to international standards”.
OSCE recommended authorities intensify their efforts in identifying, investigating and prosecuting all instances of vote-buying, while encouraging citizens to report all the cases they are aware of, where there’s been vote-buying or blackmail.
In terms of the electoral system, OSCE recommends agreeing on a national threshold, consisting in 1% for independent candidates, so that an equal race can be guaranteed for all. The final report also highlights the need to reconsider the right of party leaders to race in multiple counties, so that the principle of equality isn’t violated.
