Epidemiologist Ilir Alimehmeti said on Good Morning that vaccines slash severe COVID-19 cases and deaths, but do not prevent transmission.
“Immunization is the main path, which includes both the vaccine and natural immunity. In 2022, we’ll have new treatments. The vaccine protects from severe cases”, said Alimehmeti.
He explained that the first two doses were injected in a short time span, and the body recognizes them as a single one.
“The first two doses were taken within a brief time and natural immunity understands that it is a stimulus. That is why we need the third dose, but from the perspective of natural immunity, it implies a second stimulus. I have the tendency to call it a complementary dose, not a strengthening one”, said the epidemiologist as he urged citizens to get the booster shot.
