The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has responded to her Serbian counterpart, Aleksandër Vucic, regarding the claim that he will request international for the right to send Serbian army forces to the North of Kosovo.

From the floor of the Kosovo parliament, Osmani said that the time when Serbia could violate the sovereignty of Kosovo has come to an end.

“We are all witnesses of Serbia’s constant threats to Kosovo. These threats of aggression have recently been manifested through the hegemonic idea of deploying Serbian military troops in Kosovo. But Serbia and its leader Vucic know very well that the presence of the Serbian army in the territory of Kosovo ended once and for all on June 12, 1999.

In 1999 – when NATO troops broke the backbone of Serbia’s hegemonic idea of a Kosovo without Albanians, and when extermination was their genocidal goal,” she emphasized.

Osmani also spoke about the progress that Kosovo has made in terms of foreign policy, highlighting that there is no more room for border trade.

“Kosovo has no foreign policy”, is what several voices are saying. Of course, Kosovo has a foreign policy. In fact, we can say that finally, Kosovo has a foreign policy. But let me tell you, what Kosovo doesn’t have right now: There is no lobbying for border changes, no lobbyist payments to push forward individual cigar agendas, no paid interviews to promote certain leaders, no flirting with Serbia and Russia for the purpose of individual interests, there are no leaders who compare Kosovo with Nagorno Karabakh and Abkhazia and Crimea. The time of border merchants has come to an end once and for all!”, said Osmani.

The barricades placed by the Serbian forces in the North of Kosovo still continue to be in place despite demands made by Kosovo and international officials for them to withdraw as soon as possible. However, compared to last week, the situation in the north is calmer, albeit fragile.
