Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic held an emergency meeting with leaders of Kosovo Serbs after tensions grew high in the north earlier during the day.

The meeting took place at a military barrack in Raska and was attended also by the head of the Serb List and Minister of Communities and Returns from the current government cabinet, Goran Rakic.

“We won’t leave it to this, next time. Serbs will be protected”, Rakic was quoted as saying.

An emergency meeting was called after a Kosovo police nationwide operation aimed at tackling smuggling, including in Serb majority municipalities.

The Serbian President claimed that the reason for his visit was to hear out Serbian representatives and agree on the next steps that should be taken.

He also called on the minority not to attack the Kosovo Police, adding that “this is what the Albanian would want”.

“Their objective is to destabilize Serbia. I’ve never heard of anyone being arrested for cookies and beverages”, said Vucic.

He also maintained that Albanians have the support “of at least one country”, hinting that the latter is not an EU member state.

“I am afraid that we have someone who is completely irrational in Prishtina and there are some malevolent people in the international community that want a conflict. Of course, I would want to preserve peace, but I am also telling you that we don’t have another choice,” declared the Serbian president.
