The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has said that she expects Ukraine to make a “bold” decision to establish bilateral relations with Kosovo, during a speech on the occasion of marking the Independence Day of Ukraine in Pristina late Friday.
Speaking at this event, organized on August 25 by foreign embassies in Pristina to mark the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, Osmani said that Kosovo’s support for Ukraine “is principled and guided by values deeply rooted in the foundations of our sovereign state”.
Ukraine does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, declared in February 2008.
“We expect that Ukraine will return the support from Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state and a natural ally in this region. The war has brought our peoples together and it is now time for bold decisions to establish our bilateral relations”, said Osmani.
Yesterday, Ukraine marked the 32nd anniversary of Independence, amid the aggressive war of the Russian invader, which Moscow launched in February 2022. As a result of the war in Ukraine, thousands of people have died, millions more have been displaced and the material damage is increasing.
Kosovo has sheltered dozens of Ukrainian journalists since the beginning of the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
