Erisa Xhixho, an MP from the Socialist Movement for Integration, declared on Now with Erla Mehilli that the establishment of a national registry on sexual offenders could help to avoid similar crimes from happening in the future.

According to her, offenders could be easily traced back through a database which could also serve to stop them from getting hired in places where they could be a threat to others, such as kindergartens or schools.

“We need a database for all these individuals, all abusers, and even before the adoption of a law. This registry, which should be accessible by all law enforcement bodies, will serve to monitor them. These people could apply for a job in a kindergarten becoming a major threat. As soon as the law gets passed, the employer is obliged to not hire someone whose name is in the registry”, said Xhixho.
