Tanos Dokos, advisor of national security to the Greek Prime Minister revealed why his country abstained the Kosovo vote in the Council of Europe.

Speaking from the Delphi Economic Forum, Dokos argued that they decided so “to calm down tensions”. Regardless, Greece will not recognize Kosovo.

“We thought it would be the best to calm tensions between both parties. We still haven’t recognized Kosovo and we won’t do it. But we are trying to be as constructive as we can,” said Dokos.

He added that Serbia has promised not to hinder Kosovo’s membership in international organizations, according to the agreement towards normalization. Athens, said Dokos, only referred to this agreement.

There were a lot of concerns in Serbia, whether to accept Greece’s stance as a non-recognizing country of Kosovo’s independence.

Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dačić expressed his disappointment with Greece’s stance and made sure to tell this to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

On the other hand, Kosovo’s Prime Minister met with the Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias.

The two officials discussed bilateral relations and ways to improve it.

They also spoke about the latest developments in the north of Kosovo, the results and importance of the local elections, the need to fully implement the Agreement with Serbia, as well as the expectations for the May 2nd meeting in Brussel.
