Vlora will soon have a museum that will portray how Albanians welcomed and lived with the Hebrews during World War II.

After launching an international competition, the Minister of Culture and the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) announced that the winner is an architectural studio from Israel.

Kimmel Eshkolot Architects, an Israeli architecture firm founded in 1986, was the winner among three other competitors after it succeeded to grasp the idea behind the museum.

The Museum will be raised near the historic city center and will have a contemporary cultural venue that will serve to host various events, as well as a library, bar, and outdoor areas.

In January 2022, AADF will introduce the project of the Hebrew Museum.

Construction is set to begin before the end of 2022, in a city that is known for the warm hospitality toward Hebrews as they flew the Nazis.

Albania has an extensive and rich history of sheltering Hebrews during WWII, while the objective of the museum is also to show the humane dimension of the Albanian people.

The final project will be revealed by the end of January, ahead of the procurement procedure that is set to begin in February.

The museum dedicated to the cohabitation of the Hebrews and Albanians, a story that has reached beyond Albanian soil, aims to turn into a cultural institution that will attract dozens of visitors.
