On September 21st countries around the world, observe the International Day of Peace. PM Edi Rama and president Ilir Meta both shared their thoughts on this occasion, by remembering peacekeeping missions and giving special recognition to the fallen soldiers that have died in combat.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, PM Rama wrote that, “Albania has contributed and will continue to offer its contribution to peacekeeping missions around the globe”.
“This day reminds us that there are more things that unite us, than those which bring us apart,” – wrote Rama.
In addition, President Meta focused his attention on the fallen soldiers that died while serving their nation. He remembered Zarifa Hasanaj, Klodian Tanushi and Feti Vogli, who lost their lives in missions led by NATO.
“During the World Peace Day, we honor the unforgettable memory of the Nation’s Martyrs,” – wrote Meta, referring to our fallen troops.
“Albania should continue with dignity to offer its commitment and contribution, to protect peace, safety and stability in the region and elsewhere, by first and foremost giving our own example and protecting our values and principles that represent NATO – in the heart of which lies democracy,” – added the president.
World Peace Day was designated by the United Nations to take place each year on September 21st. It is dedicated to world peace, with a special focus on the avoidance of violence and war, which is why usually on this day, countries that are in conflict choose to willingly cease-fire.
The first time this day was ever celebrated was September 21, 1981.
