“This is not the right time to go on a strike”, declared on Monday Kosovo’s education minister Arberie Nagavci, after education staff warned that they intend to do so unless they get a raise.

According to Nagavci, a strike from the teachers would mean students losing their lectures when instead more should be done to improve their results.

“I don’t believe it is the time for strikes. The government of Kosovo is working hard. Students have already lost a lot, so I think we should give the maximum to our children. There is a great need to improve the results in education”, said Nagavci for KosovaPress.

On Sunday, the head of the Teachers’ Union warned about a protest on April 8, and then a strike on April 20, if their demands for a pay raise are not met.

“We want an additional €100 to our salary to afford the current prices, to remain valid until we reach a permanent deal on the wage law”, said Rrahman Jashari.
