US ambassador Yuri Kim has reacted after the Special Appeals Court found Saimir Tahiri guilty of abuse of power, sentencing him to 5 years in prison, valid immediately. The US ambassador’s initial reaction was that ‘no one – including Tahiri – is above the law’.

Through a post on her official Twitter account, the US ambassador called on all judicial institutions to continue demonstrating that ‘regardless of party, position or wealth, no one is above the law.’
The Special Appeals Court against Corruption and Organized Crime found Tahiri guilty on several counts of abuse of power, thus upholding the previous verdict that had sentenced Tahiri to 5 years in prison.
Tahiri will be benefiting from a reduced sentence, thus only serving 3.4 years in prison but he does have the right to send the case for recourse at the High Court.
