The US ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim, stated that she is aware of some attempts to lure or intimidate judges and prosecutors so that there can be no punishments for the most powerful.
Through a post on social media, Kim said that now is the time to break the old patterns of corruption and illegal influence in the judicial system.
According to her, judges and prosecutors must perform their duties in accordance with the law, and with integrity.
Among other things, Kim said Albania must move forward and reiterated the United States’ support for the implementation of the justice reform.
“We are aware of more efforts to entice or intimidate judges and prosecutors, to pervert justice, to insist on impunity for the powerful – in other words, to drag Albania back to the past. Judges and prosecutors must carry out their duties in accordance with the law, and with integrity.
It’s time to break the old patterns of corruption and illegal influence in the judicial system. Albania must move forward, not backwards, not even stand still. The United States is paying close attention to all developments and will continue to strongly support the implementation of justice reform,” – wrote ambassador Kim.
