Around 19 thousand illegal immigrants were caught in Albanian during 2021 – 46% of whom were cases of repeat offenders, who tried to enter our country illegally on multiple occasions.

Only 66 were granted asylum in our country, whereas the rest were processed for deportation.

The overwhelming majority of migrants who get caught in our country are originally from countries of the Middle East.

The main points of entry into our country are the border crossings of Kakavija, Kapshtica and Qafe Bota.

Illegal border crossings are usually organized on an individual basis or by smaller criminal groups who have turned this into a profitable business, which makes them from 3 000 and all the way to 10 000 euros.

This fee is usually paid by migrants from their places of origin, right before they embark on their journey to Albania.

Transportation costs within Albanian borders vary from 300 – 500 euros per person.

Dozens of police operations are being carried out to crac kdown on these criminal groups.

Based on our Criminal Code, if caught, these individuals could face jail time – from 3 to 7 years in prison or they may have to pay a fine, as low as 4 million and all the way to 8 million ALL.
