Over 2 million tourists have visited Albanian museums to learn about our national heritage in the past 3 years.

2019 was the year with the highest number of visitors in the country’s museums and archeological parks – 1 million tourists visited Albanian museums in that one year.

Since then, the state budget for the cultural tourism sector went up by an additional 1.6 million euros.

However, the isolation due to the pandemic ended up being a major blow for the tourism sector overall.

In 2020 tourism reached its lowest point in our country. Only around 190 thousand tourists visited museums and ancient sites in our country, bringing in around 330 thousand euros.

In addition, during the second half of 2021, a considerable rise in the number of visitors was recorded.

Based on stats published by the Ministry of Culture, a total of 108 thousand visitors ended up visiting our sites and museums, bringing in over 250 thousand euros in revenue.

In 2022, we are seeing an alleviation of anti-COVID restrictions which is indicative of an optimistic future for cultural tourism in our country, which plans to reach pre-pandemic levels by this summer.
