Leader of the Socialist Party Edi Rama expressed his gratitude to SP’s historic leader Fatos Nano, on the 31st anniversary of the party’s founding.

Through a message posted on social media, Rama also thanked the ‘patrons’ – the infamous electoral structure within the Socialist Party.

SP was founded on June 13, 1991 after the fall of the communist regime in Albania and following a name change from the People’s Party of Albania to the Socialist Party of Albania.

During the 10th Congress of PPSH, which is when the name was changed to SP,  the party’s leadership was handed over to Fatos Nano.

Even though Nano is considered SP’s historic leader, Rama has been the most longstanding leader since 2005- present day.

Since then, Rama has led the party for 17 years and during this time, he has occasionally butted heads with Nano on several important issues.
