As they had warned, university professors held a protest in Tirana, where they demanded the fulfillment of several conditions for the universities.
Professor Aleksander Petre in his statement to the press during the protest made a call to the prime minister saying that they waited 20 days, they will wait another 13 days and on October 17 they will not enter the auditoriums to start the new school year.
Meanwhile, the head of the Teachers’ Union, Aleksander Kovaci, has called on Rama to meet their demand for a 50% salary increase within 2 years.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has responded to the lecturers by saying that there will be a 7% salary increase, but the rest will be left to the decisions of the universities.
Lecturers’ requests
– Salary increase for lecturers and support staff
– Increasing funding for scientific research
-Restoration of salary supplements for “Health needs at work”
-Increasing the salary allowance for seniority
-Increasing the payment of additional workload hours
-Revaluation of the teaching hour as there is a decrease by 50% of the payment of the teaching hour as a result of the non-differentiation of each lecture.
-Revision of the 23% tax on the payment of the additional load
– To suspend until 2026 the implementation of point c) of paragraph 3, of Chapter III of VKM No. 112, dated 23.2.2018, for the criteria for receiving the title “Professor”.
– Achieve transparency on the budget and income of public universities.
