After meeting with the candidates of the district of Elbasan, the Ambassador of the European Union to Albania, Luigi Soreca, told the media that elections must be “free, fair and transparent”.

“We had liked to see a campaign focused on the platform, focused on the Albanian people and their needs, instead of attacks and intimidations. We reiterated this message to the leaders we met. What is truly important and essential to us is that these elections are free, fair, and transparent”, the EU Ambassador said.

During his word, Soreca said that both buying and selling the ballot are criminal offenses.

“We’ve heard about the concerns over vote-buying. Don’t forget that vote-buying is an offense as per Article 328 of the Criminal Code, but selling a vote, even that constitutes an offense”, said Soreca.

“We will continue to monitor the elections. These polls are extremely important even for Albania’s future in the European Union”, concluded the Ambassador.
